PERSONAL
TIDBITS:
I
raced go-karts for a number of years as a youngster. I decided
to follow in my Dad's footsteps and try late model racing in
1990. Anyone who raced in my dads day, and is still actively
involved in racing in the new millennium, knows the challenges
that weren't there 30 years ago. It has been a learning process
on my part, and my Dads. Over the last several years I have
strived to become today what my dad was 30 years ago. The competition
is tough, but I have earned one championship. My goal now is
to win more races and every year to learn more and become better
than the last.
We
race regularly at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday nights. We've
raced at Bedford, Clinton County, Port Royal, & Williams
Grove. The farming business does not allow a lot of extra time
to travel around to different speedways. April to July is our
planting season. The whole month of July we spend hand picking
sweet corn. August is catch up time, vacation time, and time
to prepare for the fall harvest. September to November is harvest
season. From there we roll into hunting season and the holidays.
January and February if it's not snowing and we're not doing
snow removal, we're preparing for a whole new planting and racing
season. February I get a much needed break and travel to Daytona
Beach for speed week for 10 days. Plus I have a family to try
and spend time with too, can't forget them! You can see why
it makes it difficult to keep the CARS in order just to race
once a week. We own our cars so it's not like all I have to
do is jump in and drive. Our racing season ends when the points
are over with. It's a question I hear a lot as to why we don't
do a lot of outside racing. Unless you're a farmer and a business
owner you couldn't begin to understand. I hope this sheds some
light on that.
I am Vice-President and farm manager of Roy Adams & Son,
Inc.. Our business is farming, trucking, and excavating. It
keeps me very busy and we have a great bunch of employees working
for us. I have also embargoed in a new business venture called
Susquehanna Railworks LLC which is a rail station built south
of my home. Watch for the progress over the coming year! And
of course my wife, kids, and myself operate a roadside sweet
corn stand in front of our home. It's all hand picked daily
by us. It's some of the best sweet corn you'll ever eat! We
are open 24 hours, 7 days a week, during the month of July and
also for the Labor Day Holiday.
I have a large following of family and friends and I appreciate
all the support I get from them. The sport wouldn't mean as
much to me without all them behind me. I am married to Erica
"Rikki" and we have 2 great kids, a son Jerid who
is my hunting buddy, and a daughter Alexa aka "the Wild
Child"! My dad, Roy "Check", was Selinsgrove
Speedway track champion in 1967, 1969, and 1972. He has 42 feature
wins there and places 3rd for all time feature wins. He is not
just my dad and engine builder, he's my mentor too. My mom is
Patsy who has backed me my entire life and seldom misses a race.
I have one sister Tammy and brother-in-law Joel. They have 2
children, Jacob and Blane.
I
have many hobbies I enjoy besides racing. I am an avid hunter.
I've hunted antelope, bear, caribou, coyotes, elk, groundhogs,
moose, mule deer, prarie dogs, turkey, and whitetail deer. I
have traveled on hunts to Alaska, BC, Canada, Montana, Missouri,
New Mexico, and Wyoming. I have a trophy room at my house which
I have proudly decorated! I also enjoy fishing, deep sea and
just down by the pond or river with the kids! My son Jerid shot
his first trophy turkey and deer in 2007. My daughter Alexa
has taken up archery. I'm not sure what level she plans on taking
it too. It scares me a little. LOL.
